Chuckwunonso Angel Dureke

Chuckwunonso Angel Dureke is a multidisciplinary visual artist and filmmaker. She is a producer, director, and writer who specializes in creating new worlds that examine old truths. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from Towson University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film from Howard University. Chuckwunonso celebrates nonlinear ideation and brings a broad perspective to narrative development.

In 2019, she founded Dureke Productions LLC, an award-winning multimedia production company and creative agency that produces high-quality, conscious concepts. Dureke Productions has successfully created several works, led by Chuckwunonso. Her body of work includes (2024) Get A Grip documentary, (2023) Alemanji, which premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival Pavillon Afriques, (2022) Prince George’s County African American Museum & Cultural Center - Lincoln Vista Oral History Documentary, online sensation (2021) TITLES Season One, now streaming on Tony Gaskins' YouTube channel, (2019) Plantain and Proverbs, which was selected for Amazon's 1st All Voices Film Festival and premiered on Amazon Prime Video, (2019) Bride Price, the inaugural $30,000 shorts Pitch Competition winner for the Annapolis Film Festival and the 2020 RSF Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, (2015) The Black Code Project, and more.

Chuckwunonso has also worked as a social media correspondent with BET for Sundance 2018. In addition, in 2019, Ms. Dureke was selected as a Magnolia Pictures Fellow for the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Dureke is also a former Howard University Sundance Blackhouse Fellow and a member of the 2021 Black Future Filmmaker Cohort, sponsored by Meta and SEEN, as part of the Blackhouse Fellow program.

Artist, activist, hustler, and mother of five, Nadine Djuiko, of Nadine's Hair Braiding, breaks the fourth wall and goes beyond the day-to-day antics of the African hair braiding shop business. After migrating to America from Cameroon, Nadine employs and trains Cameroonian refugees as hairstylists during the ongoing Cameroonian Civil War and the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the early 20th century, the community of Lincoln Vista was established along the Washington Baltimore & Annapolis (WB&A) Electric Railway. It was one of the few affordable housing options for Middle-Class African Americans in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Historically, Prince George’s County has such a rich legacy, fondly known as one of the most affluent Black counties in the country like the Lincoln Vista community. Yet, the contributions made by so many Foundational Black Americans seemed to have aged with a whisper, post Jim Crow.

Produced by Chuckwunonso Angel Dureke, Julie Dash, and Nefertite Nguvu, Bride Price is an Afro-futurist, colorful coming-of-age short story of a young Nigerian-American woman, named Uzoma Nwosu, who goes on a normal trip to her local African grocery store when a single turn down the wrong aisle propels her into a mystical traditional Igbo wedding.
