Ava DuVernay's #InclusiveCrew for #QueenSugar

I am so excited for Ava DuVernay's new series, Queen Sugar, premiering on Sept. 6 and 7 on Oprah's OWN network.
The trailer? Chill-inducing. The story? A family drama revolving around three Black siblings who suddenly inherit a sugar plantation after a tragedy. One of the stars? The Juilliard-trained Rutina Wesley, who was one of the few bright spots on HBO's wildly uneven Southern gothic vampire drama, True Blood
And the directors? Most of them are smart and sharp Black women of vision featured on this very site, including Victoria Mahoney, Tina Mabry, and Tanya Hamilton (whew!). And all of them are women.
It goes to show that if diversity and true inclusion is something you really care about, you will make it happen. Full stop. Here is hoping the rest of the industry follows DuVernay's lead, post haste.
